Dust and air quality

The dust and air quality assessment was undertaken, in part, to measure what impact construction traffic would have on dwellings and residents along Sewstern Lane, the access road to the wind farm site.

The results showed that construction traffic would cause no significant addition to existing pollutant levels and no health standards (i.e. the National Air Quality Objectives for the protection of human health) would be threatened. When the wind farm is operational, it is estimated that a maintenance van will access the site up to three times a year, which would have no significant impact.

The nearest dwellings and residents are approximately 1,300m from the site. Therefore is it unlikely that they would be affected by dust, since official guidelines (Defra's guide TG03) state that dust nuisance would occur only within 200m from the dust source. To make sure that dust generation is controlled, there will be a control programme in place where site roads would be regularly cleaned and maintained, as appropriate.
